ALOHA E KOMO MAI (hello, welcome)

Eiko Moon-Yamamoto is an avid storyteller, whose work is grounded in finding truth of our vast human experience through storytelling. Eiko’s multicultural roots span Tokyo, Seoul, and Honolulu.

Recently, Eiko felt fortunate to tell two stories of the AAPI experience. She recently closed NAN a new play written by native Hawaiian playwright Noa Gardner for the 46th Bay Area Playwrights Festival directed by Giovanna Sardelli (Playwrights Foundation) and played Afong Moy in THE CHINESE LADY by Lloyd Suh (The Pear Theatre). Last winter, they reprised their original role as Pacifica, the fairy in the pop musical spectacle written for the Bay Area, SLEEPING BEAUTY: PANTO (Presidio Theatre). Other notable performances include locally touring CYMBELINE (San Francisco Shakespeare Festival), a sold-out run of CLUE (San Francisco Playhouse), where they previously appeared as Emily Whitman in FOLLIES and Jack’s mother in INTO THE WOODS (Mountain Play’s 100th season) and M’Lynn Eatenton in STEEL MAGNOLIAS (SierraRep). The new vaudeville musical film THE TRUER HISTORY OF THE CHAN FAMILY written by Eugenie Chan, directed by Erin Mei_Ling Stuart will release this year.

They’re committed to championing historically excluded voices within the American Theatre canon and honored to have developed new works with Ground Floor at BerkeleyRep, PlayOn Shakespeare at Magic Theatre, Playwrights Foundation, Crowded Fire, Z Space, PlayGround SF, AlterLab at Alter Theater and Company One.

First in their family to graduate college, Eiko holds degrees from UCLA and the California College of Arts. They are a proud member of SAG-AFTRA, EMC/AEA, and the Ring of Keys. Eiko is also a contemporary visual artist. They also love dancing and teaching Lindy Hop, having learned directly from the old timers who danced it in their heyday. Eiko’s sheer love for this American Jazz dance and music led them to their dance/ life partner and family.
